The 9th IEEE Conference on Network Functions Virtualization and Software-Defined Networking (IEEE NFV-SDN 2023) was held from 7-9 November 2023 in Dresden, Germany. In 2023, IEEE NFV-SDN conference focused on the foundation, design, verification, operation, security, and evolution of virtualized network functions, with the current emphasis on Cloud Native CNFs in addition to the more traditional VNFs. Additionally of interest includes advances in SDN concepts.
The Doctoral Symposium is an innovative feature of the IEEE NFV-SDN conference series. It provides an opportunity for PhD students to discuss and get valuable feedback on their research work from experienced researchers from both industry and academia. It will help to build and strengthen collaboration amongst the communities researching and working in the areas of NFV and SDN.
In this edition, our student Fabricio Rodriguez showcased his research contributions and findings with the work: “Offloading Robotic and UAV applications to the network using programmable data planes”.
In his work, Fabricio proposes leveraging in-network applications to the network edge to implement ULL solutions for industrial and UAVs applications. Furthermore, he proposes the hardware-based P7 emulation environment to evaluate data plane applications’ performance, feasibility, effectiveness, and impact.
