SMARTNESS 2030 Welcomes Visitors at UPA Event

Campinas, Brazil – The Universidade de Portas Abertas (UPA) event at UNICAMP opened its doors to curious minds eager to explore cutting-edge advancements in engineering and technology. Held at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC), the event offered visitors an immersive experience of the university’s state-of-the-art research facilities and ongoing projects, particularly spotlighting the SMARTNESS 2030 initiative within the LCA of the INTRIG Research Group.

The event was characterized by a vibrant and interactive atmosphere, where students, educators, and visitors actively engaged with advanced technological demonstrations and research presentations.

In one of the interactive sessions, visitors experienced virtual reality through cutting-edge VR and XR headsets, giving them a firsthand look at how immersive technology is being utilized in current research. The session, held under the SMARTNESS 2030 project, was a crowd-puller, particularly among younger attendees captivated by the blend of fun and educational content, leaving them with a wealth of new knowledge.

The presentation of research posters, detailing various innovative projects such as IoT multi-agent systems, facial expression recognition for assistive robots, and remote sensing technologies, underscored FEEC’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electrical and computer engineering, and kept the audience engaged throughout.

The event was a unique opportunity for prospective students to engage with faculty members and current students, gaining valuable insights into the academic and research culture at FEEC. The hands-on demonstrations and in-depth discussions allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the university’s role in fostering innovation and preparing the next generation of engineers.

Overall, the UPA event at FEEC not only showcased the ongoing research within the SMARTNESS 2030 project but also underscored UNICAMP’s unwavering dedication to bridging the gap between academia and industry. The event served as an inspiring platform for potential students, researchers, and the general public to witness the transformative impact of engineering research on society, leaving them with a sense of inspiration and awe.
