On September 4th, Ericsson Brazil organized the Ericsson Research Day 2024 event at its headquarters in Indaiatuba. Dr. Maria Valéria Marquezini, Coordinator of university collaborations at Ericsson Research Brazil and Deputy Director of ERC SMARTNESS, presented the history of over 25 years and the current landscape of Ericsson’s research partnerships in Brazil. Dr. Mateus Santos, Head of Ericsson Research Brazil, highlighted the main areas of focus for the team of researchers based in Indaiatuba.
The event also featured a presentation on Ericsson Research’s vision for 6G by Dr. Magnus Frodigh, VP and Head of Ericsson Research. Following this, Generative AI for Telecom was the subject of a lecture by Dr. Aneta Vulgarakis, Sector Manager – Reasoning & Hybrid AI, and Dr. Jörgen Gustafsson, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Area.
After the Ericsson Research presentations, Prof. Christian Rothenberg, Director and Principal Investigator of SMARTNESS, shared the vision and progress of the center’s activities. Among other outcomes, the active participation of CPE SMARTNESS in the Ericsson Research Day 2024 was highlighted with the following five demonstrations:
- “Reproducing 6G Traces and Stateful TCP Sessions up to 100 Gbps with P4/Tofino,” focused on high-fidelity test traffic using programmable hardware P4/Tofino;
- “DECOMPOSER: Functional decomposition and distributed execution of monolithic applications to heterogeneous resources in disaggregated environments,” aimed at creating a new abstraction that identifies parts of a program to be executed in heterogeneous computational environments such as CPU, GPU, and FPGA;
- “Smart Drone Delivery: Avoiding Collisions in High-Density Skies with Lidar & Edge Systems,” leveraging edge computing and proposing algorithmic and machine learning strategies for collision avoidance;
- “DCTPQ: Dynamic Cloud Gaming Traffic Classification and Prioritization Using ML and Multi-Queuing,” designed to differentiate Cloud Gaming (CG) traffic from other types and ensure an enhanced experience;
- “Exploring the Content Steering Server for Adaptive Video Streaming in the Edge-Cloud Continuum,” demonstrating a testbed environment for resource management optimizing content steering strategies to improve video streaming quality.
