Prof. Christian Rothenberg examines 15 Years of Software-Defined Networking (SDN)

The Coordinator of SMARTNESS 2030, Prof. Dr. Christian Rothenberg (UNICAMP), was one of the speakers at the II Workshop de Formação em Redes Abertas, held in Brasília on February 19-20. The event brought together representatives from academia, government, and industry to discuss the needs and demands for training professionals in open networking.

In his lecture, titled “15 Anos de Redes Definidas por Software (SDN): Quo Vadis, SDN?”, Prof. Rothenberg explored the evolution of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) over the past 15 years, highlighting advancements in automation, agility, and cost efficiency, as well as persistent challenges such as interoperability and scalability. The presentation also covered key emerging topics, including Intent-Based Networking (IBN), the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) to enhance network efficiency, and the implementation of programmable testbeds as essential tools for research and the development of advanced solutions, reinforcing the importance of these approaches for SDN’s continued progress.

The event’s main objective was to map the needs and demands for training professionals in the open networking field. Prof. Rothenberg’s participation underscored the significance of discussing technological innovations and the practical challenges faced by the sector. His lecture was one of the workshop’s highlights, offering valuable insights and technical contributions for professionals and researchers dedicated to the study and application of SDN and cutting-edge technologies.
