Between February 12th and 24th, 2025, Prof. Luiz Bittencourt, faculty member at Unicamp and researcher at SMARTNESS, participated in a technical visit to the University of Manchester, in the United Kingdom, as part of the FAPESP-SPRINT project. The main goal of the visit was to strengthen international collaboration and advanced research on Digital Twins.
Accompanied by professors Kelly Braghetto and Daniel Cordeiro from the University of São Paulo (USP), Prof. Bittencourt took part in a series of working meetings with the research group led by Prof. Rizos Sakellariou, a global reference in computational systems and advanced modeling.
Teams discussed new approaches for developing Digital Twins based on complex, high-performance computational models throughout the visit. The group explored strategies to ensure these models can be efficiently applied in real-world environments capable of simulating, monitoring, and optimizing physical systems in real-time.
The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange insights on ongoing research at the participating institutions and outline future collaborations. Prof. Luiz Bittencourt’s participation was key to connecting the Smartness advancements with global efforts in the field, further reinforcing the center’s presence on the international stage.
This initiative was made possible through the FAPESP-SPRINT program, which aims to foster strategic partnerships between research institutions in São Paulo State and leading universities worldwide, promoting the internationalization of Brazilian Science.
