On June 13 and 14, the School of Technology at Unicamp (FT), located in Limeira (SP), hosted another edition of its open house event, “FT de Portas Abertas.” The event welcomed high school students, along with parents and teachers, who came to learn more about the academic programs and research projects developed at the school. FT is one of Unicamp’s campuses and houses, among others, the Telecommunications Engineering program, which was featured prominently during the visits.
As part of the event, the SMARTNESS Engineering Research Center presented an activity linked to its Immersive Communication Work Package (WP), coordinated by Professor Vanessa Testoni. The experiment was brought from Campinas to Limeira by two members of the SMARTNESS team: Alan Teixeira da Silva, a PhD student, and Rafael Pedrosa Silva Clerici, a master’s student. They were responsible for setting up the experiment and guiding visitors through the interactive experience.
The experiment offered a hands-on introduction to immersive communication technologies, allowing participants to engage directly with some of the research developed within the center. Over the course of the two-day event, more than 400 people visited the space, with over 50 actively taking part in the demonstration.
The activity provided a valuable opportunity to observe how different audiences — especially young students — respond to and engage with emerging technological solutions. It also contributed to expanding awareness of SMARTNESS’s work beyond the Campinas campus, reinforcing the importance of science communication in outreach and public engagement efforts.
