On June 24, 2025, the SMARTNESS Engineering Research Center hosted a visit from a delegation of Siemens executives from Brazil and the United States. The group included professionals from Siemens Energy who are involved in research, innovation, and the development of technology partnerships.
The visit aimed to provide an overview of how universities and research centers in Brazil structure collaborations with industry, and how these partnerships contribute to the development of new technologies. The delegation was particularly interested in understanding the competencies of SMARTNESS in relation to Siemens’ strategic Fields of Action, including Reliable and Resilient Grids, Decarbonized Heat and Industrial Processes, and Condition-Based Service Interventions.
The visit began with a presentation by Dr. Eduardo Sartori, Technology Transfer Manager at SMARTNESS. He introduced the center’s mission, organizational model, and its ongoing projects across the research strands, highlighting how the center connects academic research with practical challenges in the fields of future networks and intelligent systems.
Following the presentation, the group toured the SMARTNESS laboratory facilities, which are currently in the final phase of renovation. During the visit, SMARTNESS researchers Rafael Pedrosa, Maurício Rodriguez, and César Bastos da Silva led demonstrations of some of the technologies under development at the center.
The interaction allowed for a productive exchange about possibilities for collaboration and future engagement. We were pleased to receive the Siemens delegation and share our work. Their interest in learning about our research environment and capabilities is a positive step toward identifying concrete opportunities for joint development in areas of shared focus.
