Professors Hugo E. H. Figueroa and Luiz F. Bittencourt from SMARTNESS are among the most influential scientists in the world

Professor Hugo E. H. Figueroa, Director of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) at Unicamp and Partnerships Coordinator of SMARTNESS, and Professor Luiz F. Bittencourt, Education and Dissemination Coordinator of the project, have been included in the list of the world’s most influential scientists.

UNICAMP demonstrates its academic relevance by featuring a total of 106 researchers in the ranking, developed by the scientific publisher Elsevier in collaboration with a specialized team from Stanford University in the United States.

This figure represents an increase of 13.9% compared to the assessment released in 2024. The study’s methodology is based on the analysis of scientific publications indexed in the Scopus database, utilizing a set of standardized citation indicators to measure research impact.

Globally, Brazil accounts for 1,461 listed researchers, corresponding to 0.6% of the world total, ranking 24th overall. Approximately 577 names are located in the state of São Paulo, representing around 40% of the national total.
