A delegation from Ericsson, visiting from Sweden, met this Wednesday (11) with researchers at SMARTNESS for a strategic agenda focused on evaluating third-year results and expanding collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The delegation included Björn Johannisson, Aneta Vulgarakis, and Mikael Prytz, along with representatives from Ericsson Brazil. The visit opened with a presentation of SMARTNESS’s Year 3 achievements by Professor Christian Rothenberg, delivered via videoconference from Spain. He highlighted the Center’s key scientific milestones and provided an updated overview of the SMARTNESS Studio 5G experimental infrastructure.
The comprehensive agenda also featured a technical tour and live demonstrations, including robotics applications, 5G-enabled immersive experiences, and intelligent monitoring and control dashboards. These demonstrations showcased the integration of advanced connectivity, edge computing, and embedded AI. Technical discussions continued with an AI-centric focus, covering Federated Learning, drone-based applications, intelligent agents, and distributed processing strategies. The visit concluded with a strategic session outlining workshop outcomes, prospective research directions, and the next steps for strengthening collaboration.
Overall, the meeting reinforced the strong partnership between academia and industry and underscored a shared commitment to advancing innovation in advanced connectivity, Artificial Intelligence, and distributed systems. It further consolidates SMARTNESS as a strategic platform for international cooperation and high-impact research.
