The SMARTNESS held a special Work Packages (WPs) meeting on Thursday (26) at the Unicamp campus in Campinas, São Paulo, with the participation of researchers from Ericsson. The meeting focused on technical discussions related to the research activities of NW2 – Internet of Robotic Things for Smart Enterprise Environments and NW3 – Distributed Perception in the TROCA Environment, reinforcing the articulation between academia and industry in the development of innovative solutions in robotics, artificial intelligence, and advanced connectivity.
Representing Ericsson, the meeting was attended by researchers Klaus Raizer, Alberto Hata, and Maria Valéria Marquezini. From the academic environment linked to the Center, participants included Professors Eric Rohmer and Ricardo Gudwin, as well as SMARTNESS postdoctoral researcher Carlos Sena. Also attending the meeting were SMARTNESS postdoctoral researchers in research management Eduardo Sartori and Roberta Steganha.
AI and Robotics
The agenda began with a presentation by Ericsson Research on its strategy in artificial intelligence and robotics, highlighting two research fronts: Vector Symbolic Architectures (VSA), presented by Dr. Raizer, and Semantic Communication, presented by Dr. Hata.
This was followed by discussions on the current status, next steps, and alignment of objectives for two central work packages within the collaboration: WP TROCA, connected to VSA-related activities, and WP IoRT, linked to research on semantic communication.
Visits
The program concluded with a visit by the group to Androlab and the SMARTNESS Studio 5G, further expanding the technical exchange among participants and providing a closer view of the research and experimentation infrastructure associated with the Center.
The meeting reaffirmed the Research Center’s commitment to promoting high-level collaborative research, strengthening the integration of academic and industrial expertise to address contemporary challenges in intelligent networks, distributed computing, and advanced applications for society and industry.
