CAMPINAS, Brazil — August 22, 2026 — The SMARTNESS Research Center (Smart Networks and Services for 2030) celebrates a major open-source milestone as alumni researchers Francisco Germano Vogt and Fabricio Rodríguez have officially become recognized contributors to the P4 Language Consortium.
P4 (Programming Protocol-Independent Packet Processors) is the open domain-specific language used globally to program packet-processing devices on network data planes. It serves as a foundational technology for programmable switches, high-speed traffic management, and next-generation 5G/6G architectures.
Conducted through INTRIG (Information & Networking Technologies Research Group) at UNICAMP with the support of SMARTNESS, Vogt and Rodríguez’s research contributions showcase how the center’s academic outcomes directly feed into global open-source networking standards and tools.
