SMARTNESS promotes Immersive Reality workshop for public school students as part of the “Olhos no Futuro” project

SMARTNESS took part in the 7th edition of the “Olhos no Futuro” project, promoted by UNICAMP in partnership with CPTEn. We welcomed 28 students from the “Dr. Telêmaco Paioli Melges” School (Sumaré-SP) for the “Immersive Reality” workshop, featuring lab visits and hands-on experiences with virtual reality technologies. The initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to connect youth with science and education.

SMARTNESS Researchers Stand Out at NetSoft 2025 in Budapest

SMARTNESS researchers took part in IEEE NetSoft 2025 in Budapest, presenting six works across the PhD Symposium and Demo Sessions, covering topics such as programmable networks and edge-delivered streaming. In addition, Prof. Christian Rothenberg delivered a keynote at ENS 2025. The participation was highlighted by the Best Demo Paper Award for a work on holographic streaming with programmable testbeds.

SMARTNESS welcomes Siemens delegation to explore technological collaboration

On June 24, 2025, SMARTNESS received a visit from Siemens Energy executives from Brazil and the USA. The delegation met with Dr. Eduardo Sartori and learned about the center’s research and lab facilities. Researchers presented technologies aligned with Siemens’ areas of interest, such as resilient grids and decarbonized processes, opening space for potential collaboration.

SMARTNESS showcases immersive communication experiment at the “FT de Portas Abertas” event

SMARTNESS took part in the FT de Portas Abertas event at Unicamp Limeira with an immersive communication experiment. The activity was coordinated by Prof. Vanessa Testoni and carried out by students Alan Teixeira da Silva (PhD) and Rafael Pedrosa Silva Clerici (Master’s). It attracted over 400 visitors, with more than 50 actively engaging in the demo.

FEEC Students Visit SMARTNESS Lab and Explore Future Technologies

Undergraduate students from FEEC/UNICAMP visited the SMARTNESS lab on May 9 for a guided tour of research activities. The visit included a robotics presentation by PhD student Felipe Mota and demonstrations of drone systems and immersive media by PhD students Mauricio Rodriguez and Alan Teixeira da Silva. Prof. Christian Rothenberg Presents SMARTNESS Research on AI and Networking at LACNIC 43

Prof. Christian Rothenberg, from FEEC/UNICAMP and Principal Investigator at SMARTNESS, participated in the closing plenary of LACNIC 43 in São Paulo. His talk addressed using artificial intelligence and machine learning in network management, highlighting real-world cases such as YouTube QoE prediction and soft-failure detection in optical networks using network digital twins.
