Professor Luiz Bittencourt, a leading researcher at SMARTNESS, participated in the Connections to Sustain Science in Latin America Symposium 2025, held from March 11 to 13 in Lima, Peru. He presented his research on the Intelligent Computing Continuum, focusing on privacy and performance in distributed machine learning, through a flash talk and a poster session.
His work explores optimizing computational efficiency while preserving data privacy in AI-driven distributed systems. With the increasing use of edge and cloud computing, these challenges are central to developing secure and scalable intelligent networks.
The symposium, organized in partnership with the Universidad de Engeniaria y Tecnologia (UTEC), brought together scientists, engineers, and medical professionals from Latin America, the Caribbean, the U.S., and Canada. The event allowed researchers to discuss advances in their fields and establish collaborations.
Professor Bittencourt’s participation reinforces SMARTNESS’ role in shaping the future of intelligent systems and distributed computing. His contributions highlight the importance of collaboration in advancing science and technology across Latin America and beyond.
